I don’t want to waste my breath of the greedy landlord working to destroy an NYC landmark but now more than ever everyone should support the classic small NYC businesses that make this city special. What’s so good about Alleva?? Everything! It’s the family vibe. It’s the classic NYC feel. And of course…the food! Something about the fresh ricotta and fresh mozzarella balls just hit differently. In our mass produced world, finding gems that are homemade with love, you just feel and taste the difference. Aside from these items you must try the Italian Mac and Cheese, the Penne alla Vodka, the stuffed artichoke…and the sandwiches!!! I could go on and on but the point is…we need to protect places like this, especially when they still produce such quality goods that I imagine they did 100+ years ago. I will be back asap to stock up on more and I hope we all come together to let Alleva live!!!
It is no surprise why this place has been open 130 years. The staff treats you like family, the atmosphere could not be more authentic, and the prices are very reasonable, considering the quality of the products and the store's high-traffic location.Fantastic selection of meats, cheeses, pastas, ready-made entrees, and other various Italian specialties, plus a fresh hero menu that is bound to have something for everybody. An essential stop for anyone visiting the area.
If there is a place to go in Little Italy, this is it. No questions asked, just go. Had the Chicken Parm and it was really great! The fresh mozzarella cheese didn’t disappoint. It was so good I ended up eating the whole thing before thinking of taking any pics. Will take some photos next time when I come in. In the meantime, check out the other Google photos and take my word!
By the name alone you will know this is an old school, no nonsense place for dairy products. The staff are no nonsense old school New Yorkers too, so while accommodating to a degree, I wouldn't even dream of looking for gluten and dairy free in here! ? Also, don't be rude and ask for a sample just to get a freebie and run- buy something for crying out loud! We can't keep old establishments that give the city it's unique character running if we don't patronize them l.Freshly grated house blend is ready to go, real Parm and Romano, plus a selection of blocks behind a glass case. A small selection of olive oils and other niceties are around too. But the highlight, and possibly hidden gem, is the freshly made sandwiches to order. Not cheap, but holy cow, could easily feed three. As long as my forearm, and delicious. Truly reminded me of childhood. As of this post, they had benches outside so you can eat them right there, but again, unless you have a huge appetite and a big mouth or multiple people, you may want to take it home. It's likely to get deliciously messy.
Delicious fresh sandwiches. The store is small with no frills and there’s a bit of a wait but it is worth it. They offer homemade olive oils and imported Italian goods as well
