Cakes are suspect. Service is bad. Floors are sticky. Flies everywhere. Crowded at. Too loud. Owners a nozzle. But awesome in nostalgia. Some really good nights had here. Hate and love it. Check it out knowing it kind of stinks and you might love it. Looks like they're permanently gone. RIP Lalo. Thanks for the memories.
Cute cafe on upper west side. My cappuccino was made perfectly and the dessert was full of flavor. Cafe had Great Wall art. Definitely a place you can take a date for something sweet. They have a great selection
I've been to Cafe Lalo about 10 15 times over the last few years. Overall, it is a staple on the Upper West Side. It is great for (slightly expensive dessert, as a casual brunch spot, or a cute date spot. The entire cafe is decorated as a french cafe feel and they have a beautiful case of cakes. They sometimes have live music, which adds to the vibe. Some of the cakes can get a little dry by the end of the day, but overall the cheesecakes keep their moisture pretty well (my favorite by far is the red velvet cheesecake! Cons: I do believe the food is a little overpriced for the quality, but the ambiance makes up for it for me. The service is also pretty terrible it is hard to get a hold of your server to pay the bill, ask for more items, etc. Overall: Come here for a cute sy time treat, but don't expect great service
I live near Cafe Lalo and love popping in for a good heart to heart with friends from time to time (usually those visiting from out of town, who want to see the iconic You 've Got Mail Cafe). It 's a classy, cute, relaxed place perfect for coffee and dessert. The last time I was there they had live music, which added to the ambience. That being said, you pay for the name slightly. Slices of cake/pie/etc. run about $9. I 've never had a bad dessert here, but it 's a bit spendy. Recommend the Oreo cake and salted caramel cheesecake! (But you can 't really go wrong, the dessert counter is pretty mesmerizing, totally ok if you succumb to sugar hypnosis). Update: removed a star for poor customer service. A group of friends was down the street and called in asking how long the wait would be if we popped in, they screamed that the don 't take reservations (not our question) and hung up. No thank you.
