Very high quality food and the whiskey selection is excellent. Small restaurant , so definitely make a reservation ahead of time.
Chikarashi Isso is an incredible contemporary Japanese spot in FiDi. From the moment I stepped in I was blown away by the beautiful decor--the distinct large circles and wooden themes brought me right to Japan, and then all the geometric lines and black color brought me to modern day. The dimly-lit bathroom is uniquely all black, including the toilet paper! It's a nice touch. The menu was wonderful--not too overwhelming, but just enough choices to have something for everyone. I enjoyed my Toki highball, and we especially loved the karaage and the unique sukiyaki--the waiter came over and melted a large poof of cotton candy over flame to create the sugary base to cook the meat, tofu, and veggies in. Service and ambience were excellent. Would recommend to everyone looking for a unique contemporary Japanese dining experience in the city!
Tucked away in a side street in FiDi, this little gem serves high-end donburi in a serene space. Half of the space is for tables and the other half is a large bar, and as it is a small space altogether, not recommended for large groups but rather a quiet lunch for two. Had the Seared Aburi Otoro donburi which was pricey for lunch at $28, but the fish was excellent and the dish perfectly seasoned so worth the mid-day splurge. The same dish could probably be had for less than half that price in Tokyo, but think of this as an alternative to a ticket to Japan. Bonus: They have Dole Whip!
