Full disclosure: my family and I did not actually dine at this restaurant. We were searching for a place to eat at 9 o'clock and must have appeared as lost tourists (due to a missed airplane connection). One of the employees, who has been working there for 30 years, noticed us and kindly offered to help. He went above and beyond by searching for open restaurants nearby, ultimately leading us to Central Restaurant, a local establishment that has been in business for 100 years. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal there, but it was the kindness of the employee that stood out to us the most. If we ever find ourselves in the area again, we will definitely make sure to check if this restaurant is open!
The restaurant is currently closed for renovations, but I recently visited and had an amazing experience. The pastrami here is incredibly good, with perfectly boiled and flavor-packed meat that lingers in your memory. Even if the American Heart Association warned against its consumption, the irresistible allure of this sandwich would still prevail. I eagerly anticipate their reopening!
Two plus years wait......5 minutes wait for my order....five minutes wait for my order....15 minutes slowly enjoy the piece of the sky! had the pastrami and pickle, went back for a cured bark, but work forced a fall back on me.
Overjoyed for this Newark landmark's re-opening. The sign on the door honestly states test run when I stopped by (limited hours) as they retrain and test a new ordering system. Pastami with mustard and cole slaw and a big half sour pickle made my order and I was in and out within 15 minutes.
