It is not your everyday eatery, well not for me anyway, but for that special occasion/someone you would find it difficult to come across a place that is so cosmopolitan. Great food and staff. A little more expensive than most but well worth it.
A recent Friday evening return visit to Subo reminded my wife and I the momentous contrast between our usual casual dining experiences and an evening of fine dining.May I suggest to anyone that hasn’t experienced Subo yet to ask themselves what type of dining experience you seek before making a reservation…casual or something special and ‘fine’.Subo serve an exclusive seasonal set five course menu. Head Chef Beau and his kitchen team research, refine and realise course combinations that let you escape and share their aspirational creations.Just like destinations experienced during worldly travels you’ll have your favourites and some experiences that may challenge you. Just remember, like anything special, an incredible scenery or culinary journey, you need to allow yourself to absorb the whole experience.Subo’s ‘front of house’ team are proficient service individuals, focused entirely on ‘setting the scene’ before each of Beau’s creations are served, ensuring you’re ready for your next culinary expedition and of course ensure you simply feel special. To Beau, Curtis, Katie, Kay, Hope and the Subo team, thank you for providing somewhere ‘fine’..! Oh, and one more thing, if you’re a coffee connoisseur, have Curtis make you one while you enjoy your final dessert course, you won’t be disappointed.
All the courses were superb. The main course is duck and it was cooked perfectly, The snapper sashimi and pork belly were also delicious. The second desert was a chocolate beetroot that was unusual but very very good. The 4 of us all enjoyed every course.
We had a dinner at Subo in later June so we had the first winter menu. It was fantastic. I also had the accompanying suggested wines - well it was my birthday and I wasn't driving. Everything was fabulous. The menu has now changed to the second winter menu so I won't go into too much detail about the actual dishes but they were all absolutely delicious and each dish was not something I would have thought about putting together. There were 5 dishes, and 4 wines and everything was perfect. I've often watched Master Chef and wondered how they can have so much to say about the dishes that are cooked by the competitors when the judges only have a mouthful of each dish. Well you get more than a mouthful of each dish at Subo but each mouthful you do take is fantastic. You can taste each element (sorry I hate that word too) of the dish as a separate entity and the overall effect of the dish leaves you wondering how they can make it taste so great. Really helpful staff who explain what your eating and suggested my wife have a few half glasses of different wines so she wouldn't feel too left out - she had the car keys. Subo is a great destination for that special night out, or going more often is also on the cards once you've tasted this exceptional food.
We were given a dinner at Subo as a wedding gift. I'd been several times 5 or do years ago and my husband hadn't been so it was like a new venue to the both of us. Great food, very engaged staff and lovely atmosphere. Note it is a degustation menu before you book. Highly recommend Subo!
