Gas Lamp Grille - Newport

The food was fabulous. But that was about it. We were a group of 18, able to make reservations for a Friday night at 7:30 with a few day's notice. Yes, I know big groups are tough, but I've run out of fingers and toes counting the errors. We had 2 waitresses assigned to us. Both were very nice, but seemed unfamiliar with menu items. I ordered the "lemonade martini" off their drinks menu, and she asked if I wanted top shelf booze. I pointed to the menu where it listed the booze and brand names. She seemed never to have seen it. And then I was served a tumbler of lemonade while being told "here's your lemonade martini". The lemonade went to the correct person, and my martini arrived 15 minutes later. The place was not busy. 2 people in the group ordered the crab cakes, only to be told they were out of them, after many in our group already had their food. So these 2 people had to order something else and then wait. A bowl of soup came to the table and was announced as lobster bisque. None of the 18 had ordered it, but it still sat there for 10 minutes. Then the waitress said it was clam chowder, which someone HAD ordered, but by then it was cold and had to be reordered and re-waited for. Several of us ordered the lobster mac and cheese. 2 received theirs when other main courses were served, one came long after everyone was served, and one came 45 minutes after ordering, and long after everyone was done eating. It just went on and on like this all night. It seems like a college bar, but the food was really good. Everyone loved everything they had. Also, props to the owner who strictly enforced the drinking age.

The recently revamped menu at Gas Lamp Grille makes it easier for those with food sensitivities.

I was extremely underwhelmed with my experience at Gas Lamp Grille, especially after reading all their reviews.

We came here with a large party and they were able to accommodate us upstairs by putting a few tables together.
