Mazatlan Mexican - Newport

Don't be misled by the one-star reviews! This charming little spot may not look appealing from the outside, but the food is outstanding! We ordered the grilled Mocajete, 3 Amigos Chili Relleno, and Chili Colorado with Chile Verde, all of which were incredible. The Cadillac Margaritas were spot on. Highly recommended!

I ordered my favorite sizzling fajitas platter with a combination of chicken, shrimp, and steak for $24 to share with my dinner companion. The beautiful dish arrived at our table alongside beans, sour cream, and rice, but to my disappointment, there were no tortillas. I patiently waited for the tortillas, but the wait felt excessive, and by the time they finally brought them out, our food had cooled down significantly. The waiter served our meal without any serving utensils, leaving us to simply look at our food for about 10 minutes before we could finally dig in with the tortillas. The restaurant wasn't even busy, which made the wait feel even more frustrating. For dessert, I ordered fried ice cream, which was completely unlike any fried ice cream I've ever had before. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

My wife and I ordered takeout during our weekend trip to Newport. The portion sizes were quite generous. The food was ready exactly when they said it would be, and the service during pickup was quick and friendly. The taste of the food was fantastic. We would definitely go back!

We did not like the service and didn?t appreciate how unprofessional the servers were. Our family got there first and we were not attended first. We were not served water meanwhile other two people got their beverages first. Beer was warm and did not offer or provide a cup of ice. Overall service was not professional.

This was our second time coming but it been quite a long time that we didn 't remember what our experience was in the past, so we decided to come back. At first glance, inside feel pretty dark but the establishment is kept very well cleaned. The table was freshly wiped down with a clean rag with bleach. We were pretty pleased that they served salsa AND beans, our children enjoy eating chips and beans, as much as they enjoy chips and salsa, It makes dinning less stressful. I order camarones a la crema, which was actually quite delicious BUT for the price that was paid, which is around 20$ wasn 't very satisfying. There were maybe 6/7? Prawns/big shrimps in total and a lot more broccoli and cauliflower and little to no mushrooms. Again, it was good but just not at all what I had expected. Despite it being good, I was still fairly disappointed. My second disappointment came when I had asked to see their menu for alcoholic drinks and the sweet lady who sat us down said they only serve mocktails. We choose this restaurant due to the reviews and their drinks looked great unfortunately for what ever the reason may be, they didn 't have any available or perhaps no longer offer mixed drinks. My third and final strike was when we ordered a kids apple juice. We specifically said KIDS but the younger lady asked us which color we preferred for it to be served in. Both my partner and I look at each other confused. My partner said I don 't know? This one, (points to the blue cup, and than follows it with what ever the kids apple juice comes in, When it was time to pay, we were charged for an adult apple juice. To our confusion we asked the young lady who took our order why we were charged a lot more for a kids apple juice. She said because we choose the blue cup. We did not feel like arguing because we know times are tough. Unfortunately the way she choose to upcharge us, for something we made clear that we wanted and even repeated back, came across as dishonest. We won 't come back to eat here when we come to visit Newport again.
