Scarpetta - Newport

Excellent meal and ambiance. We got the agnolotti and steak and both were outstanding.

Scarpetta's website portrayed it as a glamorous, upscale waterfront Italian restaurant. While the view out over the water was charming, the ambiance inside the restaurant was deeply disappointing. Plain tile floors, plain tables and chairs, too-loud music, large unadorned floor plan, ... It looked far too much like a generic, modest-budget hotel dining room. There was nothing about the ambiance or decor that made the experience memorable. On the other hand, the service was fine and the food was reasonable. It's worth noting that everything was a la carte, which drove the prices up.

We were excited to be going to Scarpetta for dinner. So many great reviews by people we know. We were first told we may lose our indoor reservations due to high winds outdoors. Turned out to be a 20 min delay no biggie. We were then escorted to our table, which was in a hallway to the bathrooms. Not the views we were expecting. When we asked for a different table we were told it would be a very long wait. We sat in the hallway. Our server Amos may have been the best server we have ever had. He was on point with all aspects of our meal. The food was very good, the short rib app was quite a bit salty, the tomato and burrata quite good. The farfalle with crab was really good with lots of crab meat. The pasta with wild boar ragu was a hit. Definitely order that. We didn't order dessert because we wanted to get out of the hallway. When leaving and asked how our meal was, I responded that the ambiance was not that great, she responded I guess you sat in the hallway. I do recommend the food and definitely try to sit in Amos section as long as its not the bathroom hallway.

Tabatha... that’s the review, TABATHA! My gosh. Wow! Talk about AMAZING service. The food was awesome, but TABATHA stole the show. Can we bring her back to NY and clone her? I mean, like seriously! My 10 yr wedding anniversary is starting off just right. Thank you, TABATHA!

Although limited menu, the food we ordered was delicious and service was outstanding. My thanks to the chef and the wonderful staff greeting us to waiter serving us. Definitely will be back and already recommended to others
