Being hungry, we decided to stop at the first place we saw, which happened to be Mom and Pop's. It was a pleasant surprise! We each ordered a seafood platter, which was more than we could eat. This was the freshest seafood I've ever had and the prices were just a little over half that of the Virginia Beach oceanfront places, which as everyone knows are very overrated and overpriced. The service was quick, and our waitress was polite and knowledgeable. Next time we're down there, we'll be stopping in again.
Great Norfolk gem!. This was a restaurant I see from the main road it's off of and have always wondered about it. It's behind the gas station that's on the main route and today my kids and I decided to check it out for breakfast. This is a great little Norfolk gem if I have to say so. The wait staff were friendly and the food comes in bunches for small prices, at least the breakfast menu does. I will definitely be back and recommend to others.
Hidden Gem. This was an excellent find! I do mean treasure at that. A best kept secret if you will. I stopped in here after cleaning the car last Friday. I knew they opened early enough in the day to serve breakfast and was curious to see if they served it all day. I had a hankering for a skillet. Unfortunately they stopped server breakfast items at 2pm and I had arrived at 2:30... Note taken. Even on my laziest of weekend days, I have until 2pm to drag myself in here.<br/ <br/ So instead of breakfast I opted for a burger and OMG what a burger it was. The thing was huge and home made through and through, no frozen pucks here. The bacon was extra crispy and it was topped with cheddar cheese lettuce and tomato. Wow it was good and only ran $6 bucks. What a steal. Larger than any burger downtown, and it costs less. Go figure. I was so full I didn't eat the rest of the day. In fact, I went home and took a nap... Food coma, yes indeed.<br/ <br/ Service was also excellent, our waitress, I believe her name was Tiffany, took excellent care of us and was very friendly. Drinks stayed full, plates promptly removed, knew the menu, etc. Excellent service throughout the visit. I can't wait to come back and try out breakfast.
My oldest brother took me this spot which is one of his favorites. I ordered pancakes, sausage links, scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and grits. Food was delivered pretty fast for just having one server. The eggs were cooked to perfection. Got two sausage links with my order. They were good but not the savory county flavor I've had at some other spots. Served a very nice size bowl of grits with butter already melted in it. I added bananas and pecans to my pancakes which were cooked dead on! They were served with the bubbly side up which was a different look but didn't take away from the taste. The pancake recipe was not the best I've ever tasted. Which is still IHOP's for me. But still good tasting. Coffee was freshly brewed with rich flavor. From the outside you can tell just like the name says it's a mom and pop establishment with a warm family feeling inside.
This place felt homey and welcoming from the get go, very relaxed. There were only a few employees, but they worked very efficiently. The food was great and came out fast. Everything there is homemade. It is what a 'mom and pop ' place should strive to be.
