I was all excited to try the soup of the day, but the chalkboard featuring the daily features was erased prior to us ordering, as the specials of the day had been depleted. The menu is limited, and I have a paprika/pepper allergy, so my options are usually few to begin with nowadays. So, I decided to try the Arran Cheese sampler, and the special Golden Latte, that has a shot of the creme liquer that Lochranza makes. I certainly enjoyed both. My suggestion is that if you are planning on a meal at the cafe, be sure to arrive early!
I made a reservation via email a few weeks in advance to secure a table for lunch while my partner went on a distillery tour. It was fortunate that I did, as the restaurant was quite busy and the kitchen closed early. A note indicated that the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so it is advisable to call or email ahead if planning a trip to Arran. The staff were extremely friendly and promptly seated us even though we arrived early. The service was efficient, and they even brought out an ice cream for my toddler to keep them entertained. The burger was tasty, and the haggis with cheese was delicious, especially alongside the chutney. Crisps were served instead of chips with our meals. Despite the kitchen being closed, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my child's sudden craving for ice cream. I highly recommend trying the hot chocolate with a sneaky shot of Arran Gold, served with a delightful chocolate truffle. Many customers were enjoying drams of whisky and oatcakes at their tables, which seemed to be a popular choice.
After a tour and tasting, we decided to dine at The Cafe. Despite a small confusion with our order, it was quickly resolved and we all had a delightful lunch.
We went to this café on two occasions. Each time, the food was freshly prepared and delicious. The scones were large and packed with flavor. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. The shop had a variety of unique Christmas gifts available, and we ended up purchasing multiple bottles of the Arran gold liquor.
Had a lovely meal here with friends after the chocolate and whisky tasting (really good). Relaxed atmosphere.
