Apparently, because they were closing soon, they needed to stop using porcelain cups. We ordered at 16:50 and they close at 18:00. Looking at the mess on the floor, they couldn't be bothered to clean up up there either. Neither member of staff apologised or showed any interest in a good customer experience. Coffee tasted like it had come from a garage vending machine too.
From an annoyed local. I ordered 2 Large take away Deluxe Hot Chocolates. Paid for them. Was then informed there were no Marshmallows in stock. The Lady who served me seemed pretty casual about it. Didn’t offer anything else, Eg. Maybe some sprinkles, flake or flavour shot or something??! She did apologise but it didn’t seem very genuine. When I questioned why could you not have told me that before I paid, she replied with she ‘has only just seen’. Now I don’t believe this as she told me straight after I paid and was not at the stage of putting them on the drink at the end! I asked for a refund of the difference in cost between a normal hot choc and a deluxe as the deluxe said on the menu that you get whipped cream and the Marshmallows. She said no, and I have to wait for the man to come back from the office! Whatever that meant! And she said she doesn’t charge for the cream on the normal anyway… which kind of rubbed salt in the wound more!! I went away with two normal hot chocolates which I paid more for and also had half the cream scraped off in front of me as she couldn’t fit the lids on for take away!! When presented I wiped the spilling cream over the sides, off myself (small cup for a large as well) Absolute joke, plenty of other places to buy a hot chocolate and I will never purchase in here again.
There's a peculiar approach by Brits to service. Was the standard set by people's experience of dinner ladies in the 70's? I stress I've nothing against the legions of well meaning people who served but Victoria Wood was on to something! This establishment feels like they're not trying. A brusque welcome followed by watery coffee and stodgy pastries. If this café had competition they'd be failing or closed. They're not actively bad and that's the frustration. This kind of half-baked approach to service seems OK in rural England. In the cities they'd starve or improve. Here, they exist despite offering a welcome and produce that simply helps you to have a slightly less good day than when you went in. It. should, not. be. this. way. Don't reward people not trying. Go elsewhere.
Very poor and barking orders at an 86 year old frail man. Also saw me check in re covid but the woman was abrupt with me also. Didn't take cash . Staff need to be trained by this company. Unable to say how the coffee was also the food. Sorry one star for rudeness and no cash taking. Would I recommend...not today thank you. Would I go again.... no not until staff are trained. My mother who is 94 and with us also was confused in this shop. When we said what had happened... anyway we had a nice drink and eat elsewhere...
No paper and soap in the unisex loo. Dirty knives with food deposits stuck to them, dirty cup and stained teapot lids.
