Capri - NORTH HAMILTON

The Capri has been around as long as I can remember and their Italian food is just as good today as it was 40 years ago!

Dropped in spontaneously for Saturday evening dinner. Got there just before the rush, by the time our apps arrived every table was full. If you are looking for fast paced, this might not be for you. Other reviewers have complained, but it's actually nice not be pushed out while you are still drinking your after dinner coffee. It's also not fine dining, but a great Hamilton institution. The servers are very professional and old school. We were able to enjoy appetizers, main, and dessert in a relaxing manner. I started with fried calamari. Good sized portion, tasty. My companion enjoyed escargot. Fresh made garlic focaccia was served before the apps arrived. My main was eggplant parmesan, which never disappoints

The Capri was a restaurant I frequented when I lived in Hamilton 30 years ago and the downtown core was more vibrant. They still,serve big portions of homemade Italian food. The staff is friendly and service us good. The fresco of an Italian landscape is still there on the rear wall. Reservations on the weekend are necessary. By peak dinner time the restaurant was full. They have a few wines on the list including a delightful pino Grigio. The menu selection is varied from pizza to,seafood to veal. All the sauces are homemade and they are delish. We stopped for dinner and then enjoyed the walk to Hamilton Place. We parked right if the corner at King William and John for $4.00,for all evening.

Unbelievable service, was told to hold on for a minute to get a table, 25 minutes later we were seated, 15 minutes after that we got asked for drinks, got one at a time. Place was busy and only had 1 waitress and one person that seemed like the owner. I had pasta, pasta was cooked well but the sauce was like it came out of a can, i added sausage to my order that was still undercooked. Dinner took 1 1/2 hours and had to beg to get our bill. All that was needed was another waitress.

Great atmosphere. Great Italian food. Great staff. It's a good idea to book a reservation. If you like Italian food, this is one of the oldest operating restaurant in Hamilton that you must visit.
