I went to pick it up and it was not ready, which I was fine with, they said it would be done shortly and I paid while I waited. I watched as a walk-in got his food after putting his order in at 7:15. The difference was I guess that he complained. I did not get my food until 8:40, there was no apology and nothing done to make up for the inconvenience. I missed picking up orders from 2 other places because the other places had closed while I was stuck waiting. After eating the food I increased the rating to two stars because it tasted pretty good. It was not hot which leads me to believe it was done before they actually gave it to me. I was sick after eating it, but no one else was so not sure if it was because of my meal.
Standard Chinese food in not the best area of Providence is something I was actually fairly happy to find. I walked in around noon on a Monday and it was completely dead but at least they were open that day when others in the area were closed. I loved the fish tank in the main lobby full of massive goldfish who always seem to have their mouth open looking to try and tell you something. I got takeout but the restaurant inside was nice enough to not scare away those that are leery of Chinese places, in general. I had the cashew chicken with a spring roll and fried rice for about $7. It was an adequate amount of food. The sauce for the chicken was somewhat salty (MSG? I don't know) but everything else was good enough to warant a 3.5 star rating for the food. Nothing to write to Hong Kong about but not the worst I've ever had by far, either. I'll be trying more of the lunch specials as I work in the area for a short period of time, it warrants a repeat visit which is good enough for me. There are few options in this area so I can assure you that Ken Wok is decent enough to be a staple for N. Providence.
This place is horrible. I never write negative reviews because I understand people can have an off day. But this place wow. I ordered about $40 worth of food on the phone and was told 15minutes. I arrived 25 minutes after ordering and waited another 45 for the food. Never an apology and I asked 5 times how much longer it would be and kept replying very soon. The entire place only had a couple eating in one booth who already got their food. I have no idea what could possibly take so long for chinese food. It was like I was invisible. Atleast for this wait the food better be out of this world. Half of the food was cold. The other have was just poor quality chinese food. I never throw away chinese food and love the left overs even more the next day. This food was so gross i throw 90% of it away. I will never get those 2 hours back. Very rude people. Very bad food.
I had been going to Ken Wok for years and generally it was good. Sometimes I found it a little greasy, and got heartburn, but nothing more. I did find that over the course of the last 7 years the portions have really decreased. The food selections and prices were good and consistent with the area. Unfortunately I will not be going back. Two family members were sickened by the takeout dinners from Ken Wok on 1/11/2015. Dinners consisting of pork fried rice, beef teriyaki and boneless fried chicken were purchased. One family member suffered heartburn only. The other had become violently ill 5-6 hours after eating the food. He was not able to keep food down for more than a day following that. Having studied food safety and noticing the time frame the sickness occurred and the symptoms endured, it is almost certain food poisoning. The person who was sickened had only one thing different than the other person and that was boneless fried chicken. Its too bad they were not safe with their food preparation because now they lost 3 customers and possibly more.
I read the reviews. I was expecting the worst. I was pleasantly surprised! I went for dinner here two nights ago. My daughter had an order or Lo Mein and my father and I each had an H6: Beef teriyaki, boneless spare ribs, sweet and sour chicken and fried rice. My plate was delivered and the portion was large and in charge! The beef teriyaki was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! Everything else was good. I am not always a huge fan of the red sweet and sour sauce but it was nice they kindly served it on the side and you could add sauce as you desired. My only comments to up their stars for myself and my family: Have different size lo mein's to order from and tea should be free! I have driven by here hundreds if not thousands of times and I am glad I stopped! For families, my daughter was mesmerized by the fish tank in the front!
