The Plate Restaurant Bar Brewery

We had a table for 11 people and could not be happier. We arrived early and was promptly shown to the bar area while we waited for other guest to arrive. Honestly the service was better than most expensive restaurants in BNE. Great to see the as soon as you finished your your glass the waitress was watching and ready to refill. Great to see that old fashioned service we miss so much, steaks took a while but were cooked perfectly and it was Xmas.

I had heard such great things about The Plate we were excited for a night out to celebrate our anniversary but unfortunately our expectations fell a little short. Eating out with dietary restrictions can be hard but the menu had dairy free options on it so I was feeling confident we would be okay. I ordered the short rib and just asked for the dairy free option (as listed on the menu this was available). The waitress confirmed she had made a note about dairy free. The meal came out missing two items that were listed and had no replacements no potato or sauerkraut. We paid the same price for half a meal, unfortunate. Dessert was delicious! We unfortunately also left on a mildly sour note, we were paying the bill as the staff members phone rang, he answered the phone and turned his back to us, turned back around to point and tap on the eftpos machine which needed a pin. Could’ve easily have asked the person on the phone to hold so he could finish his interaction with us before we left. Pay $140 and leave feeling underwhelmed with service and food.

This place is the best. Great food, cold beer and excellent service. My steak was medium, not medium, rare as I ordered. We weren't offered the specials. We were offered still or sparkling water, so we went for the sparkling, but we were charged $14 for it! We would have liked to be told that the sparkling wasn't on the house. The place was nice , could be cleaner though. There were crumbs on the seats. The steak was tasty, shame the cheap plastic handled steak knives let it down. They did refund a couple of sides to compensate for the steak being overcooked. I'd go back and try the lunch meal, but won't get the sparkling water, next time. Lol
