It's not the best deep fried chicken I've ever had, but I love that their spice mix is unique. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly, but there's something that they use in their batter that I really like and haven't tasted on deep fried chicken before. But don't go for the chicken, their biscuits are even better. I don’t normally like biscuits, but I love Luther’s biscuits. Oh and you'll have to put up with some rude wait staff. But I think it's still worth it.
I'm gutted because I really wanted to try this chicken joint but my friend said this place recently closed the chicken/food bar :
My boyfriend picked this place based on a 2014 BlogTO post saying it was one of the best new friend chicken joints to open that year. We were anticipating some good chow. If a place only does fried chicken, it ought to be delicious, right? Especially considering there is a KFC literally across the street from it. We were thoroughly underwhelmed with Luther 's Chicken. The sides were okay, but nothing to write home about. All seemed to be frozen or from a jumbo bucket o ' slaw in the back. I 'm not expecting gourmet but it could have been better (or at lease made in house). The biscuit wasn 't bad, I liked the addition of the spring onion and fluffiness of the biscuit. No complaints there. But the chicken, oh, the chicken. I was soo unsatisfied by this globby, flavourless mess. I could tell they *attempted* to brine the chicken, but I think it backfired. Instead of juicy chicken flavour, I was met with soggy, waterlogged chicken. It was cooked, but just barely. On the drumstick for example, the outer batter slid off of a fatty chunk of skin, which then likewise slid off the meat bone. I didn 't really feel like eating after that. Generally the batter should fuse into a state of delightful crispiness with the skin. This batter just didn 't want to have anything to do with the chicken at all. I can 't blame it. I had water, or something like it draining out from my chicken. No, it wasn 't just excess oil. Overall, the chicken was edible, and the batter was ok, but it really was not even worth our time. Maybe after 5 or s pints at the bar there it would taste good . With a KFC mocking me from the window as I ate, I regretted our decision to eat at Luther 's. Next time I think I 'll stick with Stockyards.
This may be the best fried chicken I've ever had! The only bad thing I have to say is that I tried it on vacation and I live on the other side of the country. Damn... if I win the lottery I might just get them to deliver.
The fried chicken is good and the biscuits are tasty but overall it isn't the best. Worth a visit but nothing to write home about.
