DaRosa Cafe and Restaurant - North York

This family restaurant is really great. The food is delicious and the prices are fantastic.

The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and is discreetly located on the corner of an intersection. From the moment you walk in, you are immediately greeted, seated, and served. The space is small but convenient. The food is uncomplicated yet satisfying and delicious. It is authentic and prepared with care.

I was there yesterday with my daughter and friends, a big group of us and my daughter ordered the ribs. Unfortunately, she is very picky with her food in general and didn’t like the ribs so I kindly told the waitress if she’s could switch it for the chicken instead, my daughter loves the Portuguese chicken. When the waitress told the owner she looked really upset and said to the waitress very rudely, “well I’m not gonna throw it out just give it back” so the OWNER comes to my table no proper introduction as to who she was. She says, “what’s wrong with the ribs?!” I said to her, “nothing is wrong with it it’s just that’s my daughter doesn’t like it. She likes the bbq style” then she’s goes “the Canadian style?” And I felt like at that point she was mocking me and being discriminative. Little did she know that I am Portuguese, speak fluently was born in the Azores and my daughter who is 10 was born here but speaks portuguese as well. At first she told me that I had to pay for both plates and I was asking her why because i never experienced that before especially coming from an owner. Then she’s changed her story to say well I won’t charge the chicken but I’ll charge the ribs instead because they are more expensive. At that point i just wanted to leave, I was embarrassed and uncomfortable so I just told her to charge me whatever and end the problem that i never meant to cause. Ending my story, before my daughter and I got to the restaurant we live 5mins away, I told my daughter that if we like the place which I knew we would, we eat Portuguese food all the time again we are proudly Portuguese that we would go there often for dinner but after this experience we won’t be going back there, unfortunately.

Our little gem ? and not so hidden. Right at the corner and you would never believe how good the food and service is. Best deal in town and the ladies are so pleasant. Check it out yourself and don’t be surprised if you don’t get a seat. Get it to go! Just as good.
