Most of the other reviews here are exact: generous portions, beautifully baked proteins, of course service, etc. but they will be happy if they adhere to the original Japanese sauce instead of one of the fusion experiments. I had the carbonara and couldn't eat it. absent bacon-flavour and uncooked. Dairy taste was quite unpleasant. my friend had a spicy tomato sauce that he liked but found too spicy. Maybe some of the other merging sauces are better, but when I went back, we stick to the original sauce.
No warning where they claim the 100 best in Canada, but this is a big stretch. eating is simple and inexpensive, and the portions are large. all dishes are baked deep and roasted with many different sauces. it wasn't bad, but far from...big
We went to the new location gerrard st. if you're looking for katsu, this is the place you're going to. my man and I shared the crabs that were huge and full and delicious. my man had the carbonarakatsu and I had the basic. as I prefer the sauce on the side. the meal is served with rice, cauliflower and pickled vegetables. They were so big, none of us could end everything. would recommend if they receive any appetizers that they share a main dish. service was efficient and friendly. when they go in the week, they can reserve, but we only had to wait 15 minutes on Saturday night.
Been here twice, and I must say that I would only recommend their original sauce. The first time I went here I ordered their carbonara sauce, which was not as tasty. My boyfriend ordered a sauce with garlic pieces, but found the garlic overwhelmed the...whole dish. This place is a little pricey, you will end up spending at least $20/person. Their actual meat is always crunchy and tender. The place tends to get crowded at dinner time, even on weekdays, so expect to wait a short while for a table. Many of the tables are also large shared ones, so if you dislike those then you may need to wait longer for a private one. Another thing I like is that their portions are large. Overall, would recommend you try their chicken katsu with original sauce.
