My wife opted for a pound of wings with coleslaw and a side of Caesar salad, while I chose the hot hamburger with onions and mushrooms on garlic bread, coleslaw, and a side of french fries. Both dishes were delicious and we would definitely recommend them. We appreciated Emma's speedy service.
The restaurant had a musty smell and the washroom bins were full. The fries were burnt and we felt the prices were too high for what we received. We had visited this place a few years ago and it was good, but it may have changed ownership since then. I wish I had my phone with me to take pictures. We won't be returning, as there are better fish and chips options at other establishments.
I recently stopped at this restaurant for lunch during a drive from Ottawa to Rama. It's a quaint little place with a lovely view of a small creek if you sit at the back, up the stairs. I ordered the souvlaki and rice, while my friend had the fish and chips. Our total bill, including two non-alcoholic drinks, came to $53 (before tip). The service was friendly and the food was hot, tasty, and generous in portion size.
We have dined at Jacks a few times in the pass and the food and service was always good. On our last visit it was a completely different story. Firstly there was only one waitress to, check id’s, wait tables, make drinks and take payment. She did the best she could and with a smile. There were 2 tables in use when we arrived, with one leaving, another 2 arrived just after us. We waited 45 minutes for fish and chips! A table that arrived after us were served their food before us. When the food arrived to chips were burnt beyond being edible and transferred the burnt taste to the fish. The waitress said it was the potatoes they received and told us she would discount out meal 15%. Another table made the same complaint and told the same tale. We paid over $40 after the discount for absolutely terrible food, this was with one pop. The waitress is to be commended for working there, the chef needs to move on. Stay away from this place!
They have someone in the kitchen that refers to himself as a chef, not likely. My first impression of him was a raw burger that he confessed that it could've spent a little more time on the grill. Then we visited and were given an uncovered seat on the deck in direct sunlight and then left sitting, poor service. The big ending was when my granddaughter ordered fish because of her burger ordeal and four hours later, threw it up......thank God. This is serious and all we will get from this so called chef is an argument, we decided to share it with our fellow travellers..........This restaurant does not measure up to Jack's High quality excellent service and should be brought into line quickly. I am aware of the other owners in Peterborough and Lakefield and I know they hold their restaurants to a higher standard then this one......AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
