Rickey's - Novato

We started off with a reservation that was not found but ended on a high note. Service great, fast , funny, smart. New bartender needs some training. Food pretty tasty, price a bit high but I'm always lookin for a deal, atmosphere inviting warm, cozy. Looking for a reason to return one day. Might even stay at attached hotel...no drinking and driving! Be well ...Thanks for making my birthday a grand one!

My wife and I went to Rickey 's on the evening of Feb 17th 2023. We were in Novato for a Valentines weekend because my wife had to work on Valentines. We chose Rickeys because it seemed nice and it was close to where we were staying. I don 't usually write reviews unless something is exceedingly bad, or good. Well, this one was all bad on our server. We came in for dinner, and after a brief wait were seated. My wife ordered wine, and as I don 't drink alcohol, I just asked for water. My wife got her wine but the water never came. After many times trying to get our servers attention as she went by, I finally asked her again for water. She said sure. We ordered the grilled brussel sprouts, and our dinners. I ordered the Salmon, wife ordered the steak. Brussels came out after a while, and were very good. Still no water. Eventually another worker came out with a tray and passed out waters to every table. Cool. Someone else from the kitchen brought out our dinners. They we 're pretty good. At $30 per plate it would have been nice if they came with soup or salad, or even a small bread basket, but nope. Our server asked my wife if she wanted another glass of wine, and my wife said yes. We eat our whole dinner, no wine came, but we can see our server serving other drinks, putting in orders, and talking to other customers. She would walk right by our table and not even glance over. Well, our dinner was almost done, and I finally again got our servers attention and told her to just forget the wine. She said Oh sorry, are you sure ? We said yes. She said Are you sure? It 's on the house . My wife said, On the house? Well OK then . So off our server goes, and we wait. I jokingly said to her, watch her forget this too . Well, we wait, and wait, all while watching our server tending to things other than doing what she said she was going to do make up for forgetting us in the first place. Unbelievable. I finally had to flag her down and ask for our check. No mention of the wine we that never got. I 'm still irritated with myself for leaving a $6 tip. After thinking about all of this afterwards, there should have been no tip. I mean seriously, all she did was take our order, bring us one glass of wine, and basically ignore us the rest of the time. Our server was an older lady, I didn 't get her name, but unfortunately she was the standout weak link of the evening. I 've worked for decades in foodservice and will go above and beyond to give foodservice workers the benefit of the doubt, but this was just beyond ridiculous.

I went back to this restaurant for the second time and had an even better experience. It's a bit expensive but definitely worth it. The atmosphere, food and beverage options, and staff are all excellent. The service was top-notch. We had a dinner meal and the price per person was over $100. The food was a 5 out of 5, as was the service and atmosphere. I highly recommend trying the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee, Butter Cake with Ice Cream, and Oyster on the Half Shell.

Literally the worst dining experience of my life (I 'm 61). We were a party of six, took at least 30 minutes to get our bar order. Our food order was beyond a **** show. Wrong items brought to our table multiple times, two of us never received our entree in the two hours we were there. Waitress was overwhelmed and inattentive as could be. Needless to say,I can 't review the food as my order didn 't show up. The place was super loud. Never going back.
