I love all farmers markets.Fresh picked apples from Michigan were just $3/lb and there were about 30 varieties.Music is always goodPrices are fairLocal HoneyGreens, flowers, greens, carrots… on and onOh fresh sour dough bread at $4 a loafYou can’t leave without fresh donuts $13/dzI got half powdered half cinnamonFresh laid chicken eggs $6/dz5lb glass jar of honey for $45 was sold out but I’ll get it next week.(Bring in your own jar for a $3 discount)
The quality of the fruits and veggies surpasses what you usually get in a store due to the better gap between the time of picking and purchasing. That 's why this is my "go-to ' place.
Not enough organic farmers are there. I wanted to buy canning tomatoes and the biggest farmer 's stall told me they would be $60 for a half bushel!!!!! This is for bruised, soft tomatoes that they will likely throw away! I found another smaller farmer who sold a half bushel to me for $10 so kudos to him. Also, there are a lot of strollers/double strollers that take up space in the crowded market and the kids are sadly stuffing their mouths with donuts and have powdered sugar all over their faces which sort of contradicts the idea of eating fresh produce. There are peaches, apples and berries that I would think the kids would like. Some of the meat vendors say they have grass-fed beef but they 'finish them off on corn . cows cannot digest corn. This is because it creates all sorts of problems for them. Corn is too starchy and so it is not ideal for the cow rumen meant to digest grass. As such, they are liable to get sick after the consumption of corn. On the plus side I have been able to find curly Spinach there which you can 't find at supermarkets anywhere. Also, some sorrel which makes wonderful soup. Another vendor has nice varieties of mushrooms. They also have traffic patrol people who stop cars so getting across Lake Street is easy.
Everything is fresh, and a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
I absolutely love this farmers market! They have fantastic doughnuts, and the proceeds support local community groups. Plus, there's a free Farmers Market Band that adds to the atmosphere! This event is truly amazing every week.
