I used to work here and truly loved the store, pouring my heart into it. However, after a change in management, the once empathetic, energetic, and joyful atmosphere that my amazing team and I cherished quickly vanished. Despite my four non-consecutive years at the store, my contributions were never appreciated. We felt as though we were being treated with suspicion, which is ironic considering our mission is about “assuming the best in people.” I felt ignored and disrespected, and ultimately it didn’t seem worth it to stay. I made up an excuse about finding a better job, but I now regret that decision. The new manager wasn’t prepared for his role, and instead of acknowledging his shortcomings and taking responsibility for his multiple mistakes, he has chosen to persist with his ineffective management style. The environment became increasingly hostile, masked by his attempts to project positivity. My heart aches for those of us who left the exceptional team we once had due to the declining culture, but I feel even more for those who remain and have to watch their beloved store, a place where we invested so much passion, descend into chaos. Rest in peace, Starbucks Oak Park. I hope that one day better management can restore you to your former glory.
The baristas and supervisors at this location are absolutely fantastic! Unfortunately, the current manager has really damaged the store's reputation. From what I’ve seen, he’s driven away nearly all the staff. He barely interacts kindly with customers, which makes me doubt he treats his employees any better. It's clear there's a problem when 90% of the staff leave in just a few months. According to the remaining employees, they are so understaffed that corporate had to cut their hours. Contrary to what another review suggests, these reduced hours are not related to the store unionizing. Corporate has seriously mismanaged what was once a wonderful establishment. I won’t return until the manager is replaced.
I used to work at this location, and I have to say that the manager is not capable of effectively running a Starbucks. He has driven away nearly the entire staff, and there's no indication that things will get better anytime soon. The store's poor condition is not due to the unionization; in fact, he played a significant role in prompting the store to unionize in the first place. I would advise boycotting this location until a competent leader is brought in. It's truly disappointing.
The baristas and the shift leads are wonderful, the manager however is a rude little man that gives an attitude to customers when he's overwhelmed. I got my drink at another location and ended up having to go the the oak park location to have it remade since I was already almost home and didn't wanna drive back to forest park. When I asked if my drink could be remade he sighed with an attitude and it appeared to me that he rolled his eyes. My drink did end up being remade but that interaction left a bad taste in my mouth. I also heard that the lead union organizer at this location was fire but that the store still won their union vote. Congratulations to the stuff for this amazing win. I would love to support this location more if it wasn't for the manager tho
Is SBUX mgt paying attention to this mess!!?? Used to be a great store but the manager has run it into the ground. Oak Park could use some help here. Hundreds of other stores in Chicago have gotten it right.
