Wanted some samosas for the guests who were arriving, so landed at Oh! Bombay to give it a try.
Not bad Indian foodFor those people who don't know the different types of Indian food, this is a great option for take home dishes.
We ordered the following take out from Oh! Bombay. (Dinner for 6)Large Chicken Tikka Masala $11.50 Large Butter Chicken $11.50Samosas .50 each, we ordered 6. $3.00Large Chicken Biryani $13.75Chilli Chicken $11.50Lachcha Paratha 2.30 x6 $13.80Grand total: 73.51(you could say that it works out to about 12.25/pp which appears to be good value.)Regarding the food, I’d rate it so/so. Honestly, the food quality was not high enough overall for me to care to go back. Every one of our chicken dishes had almost no chicken (a few meaty chunks) but 90% of the container was sauce. Too light on the vegetables and much too light on the protein. We were quite disappointed. The flavours were developed nicely, the dishes were reasonably seasoned – but, where was the protein? It seemed like an all too obvious cost savings measure. We grossly overpaid for the amount of protein we received. Biryani is a family favourite – however, Oh! Bombay sent us home with a chicken biryani with chicken pieces so dry my husband asked if they'd rolled it over from yesterday? (Embarrassed that we served this to our family, truth is, they probably did.) I’d never had biryani with chicken jerky before, until now. Awful. (the rice itself was ok – but won’t order again.)Let’s talk about their Samosa’s – flat, thin, uniform = store bought. ((shaking head))The only reason (and I mean the ONLY reason we might ever pick up something from Oh! Bombay again – is due to their Lachcha Paratha! It IS excellent! And I think they may be the only restaurant in Oakville that offers it. (this gained them one bonus star.)So the sum of it is – go vegetarian (paneer makes a wonderful protein) pick up all your mains from A1 Sweets around the corner (their samosas are not uniform, they're chubby and wonderful = homemade) - - - but, swing around the corner to Oh! Bombay and grab a few Lachcha Paratha to round-out your meal. That's all folks.
Very cheap and portions sizes are good. Food is okay quality but not great. The seating area is not great - this is a place for quick bite, not a night out
