When we came in and sat down a swarm of flies surrounded and accompanied us throughout the meal which was a bit annoying. We first ordered water and main courses. Once we picked a wine we tried to order it several times but all servers were busy. At the end we received our food before the wine arrived. The quality of the food was ok but nothing special. Service and atmosphere were disappointing.
We went on a Sunday just after noon as a group of 20. We pre-ordered the veal with mushrooms - a bit like Zuricher style veal.We started with a soup and had a choice of three; I opted for the Appenzeller soup, which had barley and carrots in it; it was excellent. The salad was new to me but was equally good. The veal was excellent, not over-done and sauced to perfection, and they had more sauce on the table if we wanted. There was also a selection of vegetables that included carrots and cauliflower. After the meal they came around three times, offering Swiss chard, then more vegetables, then more veal. We were all stuffed. Others ordered dessert but I had no room left! This was an excellent meal! Our waitresses were nice and the whole place was rustic but new at the same time. The views from the restaurant were to die for: If you look out one window you see Switzerland with Germany in the background, behind lake Constance. If you look out the other side, you see Austria. Spectacular. The only reason the St. Anton didn't get full marks is because the place was overrun with houseflies. I was told by my family that they had never experienced this at the St. Anton before, but it was very very distracting. I saw no less than four houseflies on a small pastry at one time. I don't think I'd let this deter you; it probably won't be like that if you go.The patio was pretty big and the views from there are incomparable.
The view from the restaurant is stunning and they've done a good job by putting up windows in all directions. My Schontagteller was a delicious combination of different vegetarian autumn flavors, I'll be happy to walk up the mountain again for it. My partner went for the Chääshörnli mit Röstzwiebeln which turned out to be pretty uninteresting.Another downer was the waitresses uninspired attitude.
