La Chata Mexican Cuisine - O'Fallon

This restaurant is an excellent choice for authentic Mexican cuisine—no Tex-Mex here! It's been a favorite spot for our family for years. We recently celebrated our daughter's engagement dinner there with her fiancé's family, all of whom were first-time visitors, and they loved it. Even the one who claimed she "didn't like Mexican food" enjoyed her meal! The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was always just right. The piano player on the weekends adds a lovely touch as well. We can't wait to go back!

Best Green Sauce Ever! Welcome to Cottleville! This has become my new favorite Mexican restaurant! The food is incredible—I've never had carne asada tacos, pork burritos, or green sauce that are as good as these. The margaritas are fantastic too; they must make their own mix because it's so delicious!

Absolutely outstanding Mexican cuisine! The enchiladas were exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and can’t wait to return!

¡Ay Mí Dios! This place is definitely a hidden gem of Cottleville. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food away from the mainstream chains, this is the place. Each order is made when you order but that doesn’t seem to extend the wait time. They have empanadas (which I have not been able to find anywhere) and their tamals are amazing! And yes it is tamals. Their chips come with multiple salsas and even ask for their homemade hot sauces. I’ve had the chile Relleno two times now and each time it was incredible. Most restaurants make the egg on the outside soggy and the cheese is overpowering. With La Chata’s, the egg is the perfect consistency and the cheese is perfectly proportionate to the chile. In terms of dessert, I highly recommend the flan. I will never eat another flan after this one! The atmosphere is vibrant and the decorations add to the charm of the dining area. The owner has come out and talked with us along with his wife many times about the food and their story. To sum it all up, this is the place to get quality Mexican food and not that **** Taco Bell imitation Mexican food. ¡Es muy muy muy muy delicioso!

We love it here! Other reviewers have been disappointed with no chimichanga on the menu. I will say that my first time I was disappointed too-that is my 'go-to ' Mexican dish. But I ordered 2 enchilada verdes from the ala carte menu. So so so good! My husband ordered the shrimp fajita. He was a little taken aback because it did not come out on the traditional sizzling plate swimming in seasoning. But he said it was the best fajita he 's ever had because he could taste the flavor of all the ingredients rather than salty seasoning. <br/ <br/ LaChata is our favorite Mexican place!
