Spencer's Smokehouse & BBQ

Ordered a full rib dinner and got 6 mini ribs that had close to no meat on them. When I asked about it, the manager argued with me and said they "weigh" the ribs and that I was wrong. EXTREMELY disappointed that I paid $18.50 for a rib dinner and got $5.00 worth of ribs. After a $80 tab for my family to eat and terrible service, I don't see myself coming back.

The chopped beef appeared to have been cooked, chopped then soaked in water for a period of time. Too wet and flavor off BBQ was non existent! Baked beans appeared to be poured from a can and warmed up. Not good at all. The apple fritters were so heavy with lard you could use them for fishing weights. Over all a BBQ restaurant by name only. Drive on by this establishment.

I eat here once a month with an alumni group in the side dining room which easily accommodates our 10 or so attendees. Customers order at the counter and then pick up the order at the counter when your name is called. Daily lunch specials are posted. Spencers has stepped outside the barbecue world by offering a new prime rib sandwich with aus jus. There was a lot of bread with not enough meat for the price (over $11 which includes one side and a drink). I will stick with the barbecue which is always good. You can sauce it at the table with medium or hot. Drink stations offer sweet/unsweetened tea and sodas. The staff is friendly and helpful with information about the menu. Oh, and you can register for a free meal birthday/anniversary club.

I had the bbq chicken with green beans and corn and it was great. The price here is high, I paid $13 for two pieces of chicken and two sides. The ordering was not conductive to a large group as each person had to order first at the counter and then wait for the food to come up. By the time the last person got their food the first half were finished eating. I loved the apple fritters. I can't speak for the ribs but they looked good.

I grew up just down the road and Spencer's was always an option after ball games. The smoked chicken is the best thing on the menu. The apple fritters always leave me wanting more. If you are in the neighborhood, give it a go. Good people and good bbq.
