Vicolo - Old Tappan

Space was very nice and service was attentive. the food was good and the portions were good. great place for a beautiful Italian dinner.

Dined here with friends for the first time. Seated us promptly. Shared a stuffed clams appetizer which was very tasty. Our entrees ranged from swordfish, chicken, steak and pasta. Everyone was pleased with their selections. The food was fresh and presented well, accompanied by a house salad. We shared a tartufo, cannoli, and tiramisu for dessert. The owner gave us complimentary after dinner drinks. A nice way to end our dinner.

Food was very bland, not as described on menu, ordered chicken w/ asparagus dish. One asparagus chopped on top of chicken Chicken crust or breading was mushy)Short ribs came out like stew. Others ordered shrimp over linguini both came out with mashed potatoes and plain string beans. Would not go back. Decor definitely needs updating. I have never given a review before. This was very disappointing.

Five of us came to a birthday party on a week night. we made our reservations on open table for 19:00 clock, but when we got in, I got the feeling, it was a bit of a surprise for the staff. we had to wait for them to put together tables and to put ourselves as if we had gone to the house. we waited for an incessant time until our food comes to the table after the order (approx. an hour). at least bring the salads out to keep us and let us think that eating is somewhere in itself. we were so stunned that we went through 2 baskets. in vicolo’s defense, it was a Thursday evening that is a merchant, to get a free one. So it was pretty busy. but this generous offer has been offered to mon thurs for years, so I would think that they will pat their time down in a busy night, whether his bogo or not. I would imagine it was as busy as a Saturday night. No matter, despite the tedious waiting time, it was fabulous to eat. I ordered the Branzino special, which was absolutely delicious. one of us ordered the ravioli and shaved how good it was. so I am torn large food vs. terrible service. we had to call the server and finally the owner when the server was not available to move along the dinner process. can we order dessert now? can we have the delicious aromatized grappa that is offered free? can we have the taste? I got the impression as benny, the owner saw our frustration, he realized that I had put a note on the open table notizen that we celebrated a birthday so that he had a pattern score of desserts with a candle. well saved, benny! the desserts were delicious. it would have been nice if coffee was offered at that time. I will give vicolo definitiw another chance, but the improvement of the service would have made the evening perfect.

This was our first visit in this small but wonderful restaurant. eating was absolutely delicious, no matter what was chosen, and more we had a fun night singing together with Friday night entertaining neil. the weeping list is extensive; and they even have their own bottles vicolo weine, which were surprisingly good. we loved the homemade desserts and also drinks after dinner. I highly recommend this place to all. as mama always said: always look in your own garden. I have already reserved six of us!
