We waited an hour and a half for our food to arrive, and when it did, the portions were very small. The cornbread resembled a tiny, flat pancake and was dry and flavorless. The food itself was cold and tasted terrible. Our waitress was impatient and inattentive, and she seemed unfamiliar with the menu items. My husband and I rushed our order, but she still appeared annoyed when we requested more unsweetened tea and water. When it finally arrived, the water was warm! Overall, it was a horrible experience!
I arrived at 12:05, but unfortunately, there were no meats available on the lunch menu. I was informed that the roasts were smaller than expected and that there was an issue with the pork delivery. Additionally, the cornbread was served cold. While the service was attentive, the overall food quality was just fair to good. I left feeling disappointed with the experience. The hostess who seated us seemed to have a rather lackluster attitude, which didn't enhance our visit. I understand that everyone has their good and bad days, but I believe that customer service should always be a top priority.
Interesting setup. Large open area with booths around perimeter and folding tables and stackable or folding chairs filling the space. Did appear to have separate area for parties. We had 3 different entrees. Veggie salad bowl with grilled chicken was large and good. The pork was tender along with sweet potatoes casserole and purple Hull peas tasted good. The last meal was hamburger steak with onion/mushrooms gravy, yummy, mashed potatoes and creamed corn, also yummy. Had interesting (local) art work on the walls for sale. Very laid back atmosphere.
However, we were shocked to find that there was only ONE server assigned to our group of 40. When the food finally arrived, our waitress had no assistance, and I ended up helping her distribute the meals. She even asked for my help with the drink orders. I have no idea where the management was, but the lack of support from the rest of the staff was disheartening. Our waitress was unfriendly, and it was obvious she was frustrated. She didn’t express any gratitude when I stepped in to help, which was disappointing. To make matters worse, when it came time to pay, only one of the three registers was staffed, leading to a long wait while the rest of the employees stood idly by. I was truly astonished by how poorly we were treated. When hosting a large party like ours, one would expect a bit more courtesy and thoughtfulness during such a significant celebration. We are paying customers, just like everyone else, and the added "take out" fee—a charge on top of the already included 20% gratuity—was baffling. While I understand the gratuity given the size of our party, I couldn’t fathom what the take out fee was for. I will not return to this restaurant, and I feel compelled to share my experience with others to highlight how certain guests are treated. This was not a welcoming environment at all.
We always enjoy our time at SweetPea's. The band was fantastic, and the atmosphere is always great. The service is first rate and the food will keep you coming back.Food: 5/5
