Mama's Fried Chicken - Opelousas

After passing by the sign for Mama's numerous times during our trips to and from Lafayette, we finally decided to stop in and see what it was all about, and we were pleasantly surprised! The fried pickles were definitely the highlight—perfectly battered and wonderfully crispy. The fried chicken was tasty, but fairly typical for the area. My daughter ordered a double cheeseburger, which was juicy and delicious! She paired it with fried okra as her side, and that was also really tasty!

I dined in around 8 PM and had a great experience with the service; the staff who took our order were very friendly. I ordered a two-piece dark fried chicken with fried pickles. The chicken was crunchy, but it didn't have much flavor or seasoning that I could detect. The fried pickles were seasoned on just one side, and they had a bit too much Cajun seasoning. My wife ordered a shrimp po'boy, which came with a decent amount of shrimp, but again, it was lacking in flavor and seasoning. We also tried the funnel cake; while it was crispy on the outside, it was soggy toward the middle, and I could only eat a little of it.

Terrible experience! The customer service was extremely poor. They wanted me to pull up and wait for my order, but I’m not playing that game. I asked for a refund, and suddenly my food was 'ready.' It was awful! The food wasn’t cooked properly—especially the onion rings, which had no breading at all. I'm glad I was just passing through and not a local, as this place is really disappointing. I considered driving back to get a refund for everything, but I’ll let my bank handle it instead. Don’t be fooled by the promotional photos; this establishment is a total disaster!

The fish was fried way to soft for my liking but was still good... the shrimp were awesome....but the funnel cake for 1.99 was awesome. If you don't call ahead be prepared to wait oh and the onion rings were real string fried onions ... I will be goingback when I visit the boot again

I recently ordered a takeout brunch from this restaurant, and it was absolutely delightful! The food was exceptional, earning a perfect score of 5 out of 5. The same goes for the service, which was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is equally impressive, making it a wonderful spot to enjoy a meal. I highly recommend trying the seafood, Fried Chicken Dinner, and Fried Okra—they were all fantastic! As for parking, there was plenty available, and the free parking lot was a definite plus. Overall, this place is a must-visit for a delicious brunch experience!
