We stopped here on our way home after trying to pick up our apple juice from the press just outside Clefs and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, especially at the price. Service was rapid and friendly, despite the reception in the...big room next door. Had a huge portion of pike in beurre blanc and duck breast. We skipped the starter buffet which was very generous with seafood, as well as the obligatory salads, pate etc. We shall come back when we have less driving to do!
We have been visiting La Cle d'Or for maybe years and it hasn't changed much in that time although there's been a lot of decoration going on this year. Monsieur is in the kitchen and Madame takes care of the bar and restaurant on...her own so at busy times there might be a slight wait but nothing out of the ordinary. The usual menu arrangements are in place a cold buffet to start (don't be late or the best bits will have vanished), choice of maybe three plats du jour, dessert and wine. I think it's now about This is the kind of place where locals go and probably not too many tourists which is just how we like it. Not much English spoken but my schoolboy French has usually been enough to get by. Recommended if you are in the La Fleche/Baugé area.

For 10.80 euro each we could have a buffet to start, half crabs, prawns, brown shrimps. various small shellfish, pate, rice/pasta salad, eggs, followed by blanquette de veau or bavette with frites or pommes puree, haricot verts, then help-yourself cheese, then choice of tarts or ice cream, plus bread, a bottle of water and a bottle of red wine to have a glass or two. How can they do this in France in many establishments like this that we have visited when English food is so expensive.Very nice friendly and obliging lady who served us , will be back when next near.
