Definitely a locals bar....That being said the mojitos here are superb. I just had a little trouble ordering due to my lack of french and their lack of english. If your visiting Paris this is a great place to start your night!
My favorite bar for the area around rue des Abbesses. This is a great and very popular (but tiny bar just up the hill. They specialize in mojitos, make lots of them, and typically have a descent size crowd outside smoking and drinking mojitos/beers on their tiny terrasse or on the adjacent sidewalk. They serve a nice planche of cheese and charcuterie nothing to rave about but nice to have at your disposal after a few mojitos. While the bar is usually crowded, you can still find a corner to chat with a friend or date without too much hassle. I go here for their house specialty cocktail: Le Captain. This is a rum based drink with blue curaçao and an upside down bottle of Orangina and a straw that goes into the bottle. As you drink, the bottle turns green and while at first it just tastes like Orangina the whole thing eventually becomes a delicious if perhaps dangerous mind hand grenade (it kinda looks like one too as the rum gets pulled in towards the end. They also can make mojitos with Sailor Jerry now (a Captain Morgan spiced rum ripoff and the results are rather delicious (but normally guarantee a headache I recommend avoiding Jerry and his treacherous ways... There is another cocktail based on Kahlua that is surprisingly yummy but I forget the name. Anyways great place. Highly recommended for small groups of friends from 11pm to closing time at about 1:30am. Happy hour can be nice as well :D
Our family had one of the worst dinners in this place. To give examples of how bad everything was, the best tasting articles were a burger patty they grilled without seasonal, not even salt and a side of highly salted, over boiled potato chips. The veal they served was the most dry I ever tasted (make me wonder if it was freshly cooked). The rib steak they serve was cooked unevenly, extremely well in one side and red raw meat on the other side. The Rib Steak dish came with a pasta side, which literally had no sauce, spices, even butter. Just a piece of cooked pasta on the plate. The cold fish they serve in the pastry was strange, we couldn't find out if the fish had gone bad or whether it was just not good. We don't speak good French, but they didn't have anyone who would even check the translation app we had to help them interpret. They had 3 people walking around, didn't seem to have time to take our order right. They just walk away and do not come to check for water as well. You have two orders wrong. It was ridiculous. I wouldn't come back.
That was the best restaurant in Orsay. Everything was great and the price was right. A tip: You should always call and book your table. Many people know that it is good and it will be crowded every night for dinner.
