Food is fresh and flavourful with local products highlighted. delicious! friendly staff and something on the menu for everyone, definitely recommend
There's few restaurants on Montreal Rd that have exceptionally delicious food. This tiny cafe does. You'd never expect it in a medical building but it's the truth. Think gastro pub quality with a personal touch. I had the roasted carrot soup and a j chicken club on a ciabatta bun. It was amazing! The lady that I assume owns the cafe has won numerous awards for her catering business and it clearly shows in her food. I'll be stopping buy again soon.
This hidden gem of a restaurant has some of the most delicious food I've tried in Ottawa. Although the menu is small, it offers a variety of tasty options, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices, as well as good meat dishes. I enjoyed some veggie quesadillas that were not only delicious but also reasonably priced at around $8. I highly recommend checking it out!
I ordered the J Chicken Salad for $9.61, tax included. It featured a fresh spring mix—thankfully, no iceberg lettuce—along with bell peppers, sautéed onions, crunchy plantain chips, tender j chicken, and cheddar cheese. I usually request my dressing on the side, but I forgot this time. Luckily, the salad wasn't overdressed or greasy; it was fantastic! The j chicken consisted of lean breast meat that was bursting with flavor, offering a subtle hint of spice without being overwhelming. If you’re not fond of spicy foods, don’t worry—it’s mild enough for almost anyone. However, I will be asking for more spice next time! The plantain chips provided a lovely crunch, adding nice texture to the salad, and the shredded cheese was a great touch. I truly enjoyed my salad, though I felt the portion size was a bit small. Then again, maybe I’m just a petite person with a big appetite, haha! The cafe itself is quite small, with seating for only eight people—two tables for two and one table for four, which can be split into two tables for two, but it would be quite cramped. You'll find it inside the Phenix Medical Professional Building (yes, that's the correct spelling, with no "o") on the ground floor. Even the signage at the cafe's entrance looks clinical and sterile; I couldn’t help but snap a picture! I’ve learned that great food often hides in unexpected locations, so I never judge by appearances or the environment. As for parking, like most medical buildings in Ottawa, it has paid parking in its private lot, but there's a 15-minute grace period. So, if you’re just going for takeout or a quick bite, you might be able to avoid paying for parking, haha. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Capital Fare Cafe!
