My husband and I had dinner at this restaurant. We both enjoyed our meals - I ordered the chicken pot pie while my husband had the shepherd's pie. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The lemonade tasted homemade and the craft beer was good, although it did go flat quickly. The menu had a good selection of options.
I honestly wish I could rate higher but the food quality wasn't quite there. The service was friendly, welcoming and efficient. The selection of beers and beverages were impressive. The food was average pub food, frozen burger patties, unappealing fries. I forget the name of the potato pancake dish with beef, but the meat was rather tough. If the food was a little better, I would go back.
The Sir John A is named after Sir John A. MacDonald, Canada's first Prime Minister. It's fitting that a pub be named after him as he was known for enjoying a drink. I visited on a Thursday afternoon to try some local ales and ended up staying for dinner. I tried some new beers and also had a dish I had never tried before.
This place has a great selection of draught beer. Tons of local micro-brews. Food was quite good as well. The usual pub fare, but done well.
