Riverside Family - Ottumwa

This is our second visit, and we absolutely love the homey atmosphere of the kitchen—everything is delicious!

This morning, my experience was quite efficient – I quickly ordered a drink and then placed my order just a few minutes later. So far, the highlight of my meal has been the country fried steak, which came in an enormous portion; I had to take the leftovers home. The staff was wonderful, and the atmosphere was very clean.

Stopped in for a late breakfast. Large menu with a lot of selections. Had country fried steak and a couple over easy eggs. Those were just fine. The hash browns weren't. Looked like the cook burnt them on one side. They were dark brown almost black. He just stirred the burnt and good remaining potatoes all together. I tried to eat the better white part of it, but gave up. The service was good. Employees were friendly and accommodating.

Hubby and I found this place on Google! (Thanks Google) It was a little busy on a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted and seated immediately. They have an extensive menu and serve soup daily. We ordered breakfast. I ordered the steak skillet, which was absolutely amazing. My hubby got a build you own omelet. We split a 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy (only served til 2pm) it is THE BEST sausage gravy I've ever had!! And the pancakes were phenomenal!! We will definitely be back!!!

During my last visit a few weeks ago, the service was quite slow, and the waitress appeared more focused on accommodating larger groups to secure better tips rather than attending to smaller tables. It’s also a bit absurd that they offer breakfast but don’t serve lunch until Friday night. For a family restaurant, it would make more sense to have lunch available every day of the week. Overall, it seems a bit silly to have such limited hours.
