Great British Fryer - Oxenford

Hi I visited this place because they recently won Best Fish and chips in Queensland.I did read some negative reviews but thought it was judged best so will give it a go.Had Cod and chips and it was best I have had anywere Good outside area and staff were super helpful Was very busy but still took the time to check on everyone who ate outside.Would definitely recommend 5 star

Sorry, but being a Brit, I know all about fish and chips. Ordering cod and chips for hubby, myseld and two pommie friends. All of us were delighted with the fish, sweet white and chunky, but whatever happened to the chips?? I haven't seen chips like it.....especially in England!! I know the staff are proud of the fact the chips are homemade, but they were small, pale and shrivelled.....actually inferior to any number of frozen chips available from the supermarkets. Going back to our local in Helensvale.

Great food, well priced, friendly staff - also nice area to sit outside. The little shop inside sold a variety of English treats - we will go back

My husband went there after reading about their high ranking. He had tried ringing to place an order as we live some distance away, but got a message saying they were too busy to answer the phone. On arrival at the shop, the woman behind the counter immediately told him in no uncertain terms that there was at least a half hour wait, before he even had a chance to order. He then ordered two of the chipolata and chips and the woman then said: ‘you do realise the chipolatas are very small?’ He looked at the food in the warmer and she told him he couldn’t have any of that as it was for other people’s orders. My husband then thanked her and left without ordering. He also commented that the woman seemed more interested in serving people with British accents. It doesn’t take much to provide good service. Be friendly to everyone. Be respectful. Listen. Have patience. Designate a staff member to answer the phone. Commonsense people!

Decent British fish and chip shop abroad. Decent chips, pies and the rest of what you expect from a chippy. You get decent sized portions. Ring your order through as it does take a while, especially if it is a big order.
