We visited early April with 2 non- vegan guests who were impressed enough by the vegan menu to eat together with us. I had the Malabar Tofu Curry, which was very tasty, it must be one of the best curries I ever had. My wife enjoyed the Vegan Shepherds Pie, which came with a very generous part of the sweet potato chips. Our guests who were both selected by the vegan starters and enjoyed the food. A fine slice of apple cake with vegan custard filled any remaining gap. We will return:
We discovered that this restaurant was only a 10-minute walk from where we were staying, so we decided to give it a try since it offers a new vegan menu and we wanted to support the idea. We were seated and given a large vegan menu to choose from, which included 5 appetizers, 5 mains, and 5 desserts. However, after placing our order, the waitress returned to inform us that they had a new chef who had not yet learned how to prepare any of the vegan dishes. This was disappointing, especially since I was looking forward to trying the vegan brinjel pussies. Instead, they made us a Thai green curry and an Indian curry, which were tasty but simply veggies in curry sauce with rice. The prices ranged from 8-10 pounds each, which did not seem to match the quality of the dishes. However, the desserts were a redeeming factor as they offered pre-made vegan cakes. We enjoyed the chocolate cake and the apple, cinnamon, and hazelnut cake with soy custard, both of which were delicious and left us with a more positive impression of the evening. This place has potential with its great vegan menu, but it might be a good idea to call ahead to ensure that the chef can prepare vegan dishes. The pub itself had a warm and cozy atmosphere, and the waitress was very apologetic for the mix-up, which we appreciated.
We first learned that The Tree now offers a vegan menu when we were given a flyer at the recent Oxford vegan fair. We visited in April with two non-vegan guests who were impressed by the vegan menu, just like us. I had the Malabar tofu curry, which was incredibly delicious and one of the best curries I have ever had. My wife loved the vegan shepherd's pie, which came with a generous portion of sweet potato chips. Our guests both tried vegan starters and enjoyed them. We finished our meal with a slice of apple cake with vegan pumpkin filling. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be returning.
Despite the initial hiccup, we were pleased to find that they did have vegan desserts available, including a delicious chocolate cake and an apple, cinnamon, and hazelnut cake with soy custard. This helped to salvage our overall dining experience and leave us with a more positive impression of the place. The restaurant has potential, with a great-looking vegan menu, but it would be wise to call ahead to ensure that the chef is able to accommodate vegan requests. The pub itself had a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, and our waitress was very apologetic about the mix-up, making us feel cared for.
Terrible. Reminded me of an Eastern European refugee camp. The shower rod almost fell out of the wall while using it. The mattress was in terrible condition, with springs sticking out.
