This last time both were HORRIBLE. The gumbo was water. The service was snail SLOW and rude. We had to ask several times for clean silverware. Found out later that award winning Chef Ben and his wife Jeri are no longer there (not by their choice). Although you can 't tell from the website because they are still using his credentials, pictures and recipes. Ben 's recipes don 't work without Ben. Service is not working without Jeri. We won 't go back. SAD.
Came in on a Thursday afternoon, shortly after the start of happy hour. 1 other couple in the place. 1. The advertise a happy hour appetizer special on the big sign out front and on a table tent on each table. We say--we'll have that. She goes back to the kitchen. No special app and no substitution. 2. Ordered the famous tenderloin. Two things with this: a. Waitress brought mustard. The lid wasn't securely on so when I went to put some on my tenderloin, it squirted/poured out all over my sandwich and our table. The waitress was nowhere in site (this is a little bitty place), so we cleaned it up with a few dozen napkins. b. Start to eat the tenderloin. The breading comes completely off. So it is a sandwich size breading and the a white piece of pork. Never seen this before. Wonder what caused it? In the end, not delicious. 3. Over-charged on the bill. Caught it and was corrected after substantial wait during the whole process. Beer was OK and gumbo just OK. Won't be back.
So good. Get the Crazy Mary for brunch. Thing is like 3 meals. Also. Crabcake eggs Benedict are mighty tasty!
During a recent visit, we were unaware that Chef Ben had left, but the noticeable decline in food quality and taste was impossible to ignore. We ordered our usual favorites—the New Orleans shrimp starter and gumbo—but they lacked the depth of flavor and overall enjoyment we had come to expect. It was quite disappointing. Dessert didn’t impress either. The pie they served tasted like it had come straight from a Cisco delivery truck and was probably frozen. Chef Ben would have never allowed such a thing to leave the kitchen; it was terrible. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
Absolutely fantastic! You have to try the Crazy Mary for brunch—it's massive, like three meals in one! And the crab cake eggs Benedict are incredibly delicious!
