It is also a hotel and has a quaint Octoberfest style beer garden. Reservation is recommended as it always busy. Breakfast starts at 9am until 1130am.
This is such a lovely restaurant. Set just outside the town of Elsen, it's a lovely converted barn with beautiful surroundings. The food is seasonal produce and tastes amazing. The wine and local beer choice is fantastic. The staff are amazing and accommodating and will help you with your choices if you are spoilt for choice. They do have English menus for those who can't speak or read German, But please try to learn or attempt to understand the German menu. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful with wooden beams and a sort of balcony level adding an extra dimension. They have a lovely outside area which is lovely in the summer months. I would say make a reservation to save disappointment as it's a little out of the way and you don't want to tip up to find they gave no tables as it is always busy. I have never had a bad meal or experience here. It is reasonably priced fir the quality of the food and the venue. They accommodate large groups but is also perfect for a romantic meal.
In good weather, the beer garden is one of the best in Paderborn. Good beer, nice operation and on the map the vegan dishes are clearly marked. We had the burger, a salad, a soup and a donut with ice for dessert.
The Alt Enginger Mühle is indeed a traditional place, with nice farm-like decoration and a big outdoor area. Vegan options included one soup, two salads, one main course, and one dessert, all clearly labeled in the menu. Unfortunately, as I had eaten similar food several times previously (ratatouille and potatoes), I felt like eating something else, and then the options were quite limited for a full meal! I had a salad, which was soaked in dressing (way too much to my taste), but the dessert, a coconut panna cotta with bilberry, was pretty nice, and the staff nicely answered all our questions.
