We were pleasantly surprised! The staff made sure to accommodate us when we mentioned we were vegetarian or vegan. The waiter recommended a pumpkin curry which was delicious and not too spicy. The restaurant quickly filled up, so it is best to arrive early and then enjoy a leisurely meal after a long boat ride. The food is freshly prepared, so be prepared for some wait time. The curry was 30,000 kip and the fried rice was 25,000 kip. Overall, a great dining option in Pakbeng with a wide variety of choices.
My friend and I, along with our friends, stopped at this restaurant while on the slow boat. My boyfriend and I ordered two Laos curries with tofu and pumpkin, two papaya salads, a large beer, and green tea. The salads were crispy and fresh, and our curries were hot and flavorful. The total cost of the meal was just under 100,000 kip, which is less than ten dollars. We spent a few hours socializing and the atmosphere was great. The restaurant is very casual, with food arriving when it's ready, and the owner may forget your drink if it gets busy. He speaks English well and is accommodating to various diets. The location is nice, with some tables by the river, but be sure to wear mosquito repellent if you plan to sit outside.
This restaurant is truly amazing! The food and the people are both exceptional. They speak English and are able to cater to vegetarian needs with ease (they even have vegan options, like fried noodles without any egg). I highly recommend trying the curry, fried noodles, and spring rolls.
I spent the night in pakbeng, laos on the 2 days slow boat trip from huay xai to luang prabang. this restaurant was over the street and right of my hotel, monesavanh guesthouse. the owner is laotian and is a former Buddhist monk. during his time as a monk, he learned English, French and a bit other. he speaks English so well! he understands vegan and even asked if I wanted her not to use fish sauce after I had forgotten to mention it. his wife is the cook and she is amazing! I had the tofu liquor and the local whisky. the food came hot and so delicious! I never thought I could try laap because it always has meat products in it. the whiskey is made from rice in the village next door and is at the first swallow potent, but a really smooth supplement to her meal. there are very few possibilities in this tiny city and I was so happy that I chose it!
