Speaking to friends from the area, we knew to expect no frills and unpretentious food, but when you have young children (4 and 8 months), that suited us just fine. We booked early and were the second to arrive meaning that it wasn’t exactly heaving when we did. It started with so much promise. There is a sweet pond that my little boy was very impressed with, and a couple of french children seemed to be fishing with a net which gave the impression that you weren’t table bound if children wanted to go for a wander. In fact a boy from the same family started climbing a tree and nobody batted an eyelid. We aren’t the sort of parents that believe in letting children run around causing havoc when people are eating anyway, but it was nice to know we could relax a little if we wanted to. Staff were friendly, sat us outside under a rustic canopy and came and took our drinks order promptly. We ordered food shortly after and when the starters arrived the heavens opened! Obviously this couldn’t be helped, but what followed after was really disappointing. There is a large terrace on the front of the building, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that everyone but us was offered to be moved to a table there even people that had arrived after us. There was even a table free, but we were taken inside and shown to a dirty room at the back, with nobody else in there and Windows covered in dust, We had to bring all of our food and drinks in, no waiting staff came to help, and we struggled with our pram and children, whilst they helped a couple of very able, very free adults in with some garlic bread! We finished our pretty average starters and our little boys pizza arrived just beforehand. Once clearing the first course away, my husbands pizza arrived and the waitress acknowledged that mine would follow. It didn’t. 10 minutes later a waitress came in and asked how everything was and i queried where my food was. She looked a bit confused but assured me it was on its way. Another 10 minutes followed and another waitress came in to ask if we were all finished as the rest of my table had! I smiled and said that mine hadn’t arrived at all and she looked embarrassed and went to check on it. 5 10 minutes later, the food shellfish tagliatelle arrived, without even so much as an apology. I then had to ask for a spoon and Parmesan which arrived another 5 minutes later. The prawns were very soft and fishy which concerned me, and for almost 17 euros, it was just ok. Ants were crawling across the table at this point and I could hear other guests leaving who had arrived after us. When I had finished, my plate was cleared and we just wanted to get out of there, so we asked for the bill which arrived about 5 minutes later. There was no mention of what had happened, nobody offered us a complimentary drink/dessert as an apology and the food had been left on the bill. Granted all of this may be a very British thing, but to not even say sorry for the inconvenience was pretty irritating. The terrace still had space when we left and the garden was filling for what looked to be a busy night for the kitchen. It is clearly a popular place, but one that we won’t be rushing back to, nor really understand why?!
Fabulous venue although I understand that they are moving to Cala En Porter for next year to create La Vella ?
We have driven past this restaurant for years, but having been personally recommended decided to try it. It's a lovely, very pretty setting, outside garden and terrace, which during the warmer months, is a real treat to eat in. Great food, and service and we will return. However, lost one star as the pasta portion was tiny! The main option was more like a starter size. That aside, a lovely choice and all the food extremely tasty.
Great atmosphere at this secluded restaurant. Its not one you will stumble across. We went on recommendation and were not disappointed. Great setting for a family gathering. Sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the atmosphere. A bottle of wine or two and a couple of large pizzas. There isn't anything not to like (unless your the elected driver).
Had a fantastic meal at villa Madrid last night. Really lovely atmosphere. Service was excellent and the food wonderful. Thank you villa Madrid we will be back soon
