La Vieja Iruna - Pamplona

We went for a lunch with the menu del dia. An amazing bargain at 27 euros for 3 courses including some wine and beer. Superb food highlights included crisp pork belly and lovely cod. Puddings great too eg Baileys French toast. Great service and lovely looking place. Only downside is it doesn’t have outside tables, but highly recommended.

We were feeling rather overindulged after lots of holiday meals so were delighted to find this friendly bar with great pixtos selection, and good drinks. I opted for various seafood choices, lovely hot garlicky prawn skewers, a seafood shell and some anchovy olive skewers and husband had a pizza. We had a couple of beers followed by wine, all good. Price reasonable, setting comfortable and relaxed.

We were looking for a restaurant or wine bar (learned there is no such thing in Pamplona) to just have a plate or 2 of Iberico Bellota Ham and a really good bottle of red wine with it after having had 6 exceptional courses at the Rodero the night before. We chose the Vieja Iruna because of the friendly and helpful staff and fresh and modern ambiente inside when we asked for a dinner table reservation in the afternoon and our instinct was right on spot! The restaurant is open only 8 months, run by a very young, very friendly and open but nevertheless professional team, where you can feel every moment that they are really enthusiastic about what they are doing and it shows! We have no experience in spanish red wines, so I started checking the wine list for a top bottle on the internet, but while doing so, one of the guys running the show came by with his 3 top recommendations, I googled 2 and chose the one he recommended most in the end bull 's eye ! A 2006 Rioja Reserva for an impossibly good price that went extremely well with the top level quality Bellota they served together with a big plate of toasted slices of artisanal bread with olive oil on it and fresh tomato puree to put on very simple (as we had ordered) but ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! The team is just great, young people committed to quality in every aspect at least that was our distinct impression that evening even though not all of them are fluent in english, and we do not speak spanish, just understand a bit, also the conversation was actually great fun. One can only hope that this place will be successful, but from the team performance and the creative dishes on the menu, I assume that will not be a problem, so if you want just a plate of excellent ham paired with a top spanish red or try their menu degustacion you will be in the right place for a memorable evening A MUST GO THERE in Pamplona, way above the standard pinxos bars!

Un sitio de 10! comimos el menú de degustación y nos deleitamos. la variedad y el original de los platos lo mejor. todo exquisito. El trato de los camareros es muy bueno. Definitivamente volveremos. muy buena cocina, corriente y calidad en el centro de pamplona.

Muy buena carta, exquisito tratamiento por los camareros. las albóndigas de txuletón riquisimas. Queso increíble. Muy buena calidad/precio. para repetir. totalmente recomendada
