As we were walking to the Berthillon flagship location, we were informed that it was closed. So, we made an alternate choice, Pom'Cannelle which served Berthillon ice cream, not far from the flagship cafe. The ice cream was delicious...one had the dark chocolate glace, two had the salted/butter caramel, one had a "Black 'n White" sundae, and the last person had cherry sundae (which he described as "decadent"). A wise choice. Can't comment on the other food served, but the ice cream was superb!
We had two different types of quiche. Okay flavour but the sallad was not rinsed enough and had some dirt in it. The atmosphere is not very inviting and we left pretty soon. Don't understand the hype...
We have loved Pom Canelle for several decades. Located on Rue des Deux Ponts at the midpoint of the island, more or less and a short walk from Notre Dame. The house specialty is a nice selection of quiches served with a simple green salad with tomatoes and shredded carrots. There are usually 5 or so available on any day and today I had the Leek-Chicken-Mushrooms and Jean had Quiche Lorraine. Both were 10 Euros and both were lovely and satisfying. Add in a carafe wine and a bottle of sparkling water and the bill still came in under 35 Euros. In addition to Quiches, there are five or six plats du jour including Lamb Shank, Beef Burgundy and more, all served with choice of rice, potato puree or green beans. Pom Canelle will remain our go-to lunch spot on Ile St. Louis, for sure.
