It was the first time my family after paris. we traveled from America for hours, it was rainy and dark.. we were totally insecure where we go. someone has pointed us to the street in a Vietnamese restaurant. we didn't know what to expect....and wow. we were totally surprised and blown away from this restaurant. from the minute we went, we realized that this was the place to be. it was packed from corner to corner. the eating smell amazing, the people had a great time, the company, the dishes were fresh, steaming dishes of suppening and stuffing, delicious crispy and well prepared sweet and meat. the house personnel was excellent and the owner / main host (sorry, forget his name! was so courteous. we waited a few minutes for a table, but it was certainly worth waiting. we ordered 1 each type of meal from the different sections, so we could all try it. everything was fresh, tasteful, very nicely arranged on the plate. my children are so happy. the main host stopped at our table and chatted with us. He made us feel so welcome in his city. I wish we had a place like this miami, usa! it started to rain for a because strong and we wanted to stick in the middle and try to wait without a word the wet called us a one about that he was covered! again another pleasing unexpected ecperias that we will never forget. many thanks for the first night in tolbiac so amazing! from one cook to the other was eating and the service of the top class. if they are ever in south florida usa, we are happy to return the gunst. the jerk it cuisine food truck!
Having tried the french restaurant nearby to our Ibis hotel and not being impressed we decided to go against the grain whilst visiting Paris and try another cuisine. Firstly I am not sure if this restaurant has moved the address we visisted is...195 Avenue de Choisy but definitely the same name and when walking through the Tolbiac area we did not see another by the same name. This is definitely not a posh restaurant, more like a cafe but it was very clean and very busy so we decided to take a chance. We had chicken curry and Chicken Satay which both came with rice and salad, a coke and a small red wine and we paid for a mineral water which all came to €25 good value we thought considering local prices for a main meal were from €12 €20. The waiter recognised that we spoke limited french and spoke english without making us feel uncomfortable, I would say on the whole that the service was very good and would go back there again. The only thing I would change is that the local french diners had tap water, asking for a carafe (I think) rather than just water this would have saved €3 I suppose it depends if you trust the person refilling the bottle the french seem to!
This restaurant was located just opposite from where we were staying. Prices are low, food is good and served in generous portions. You have a wide choice of traditional Vietnamese cuisine. French with Vietnamese origins on other websites said that it felt like real Vietnamese...food. I can't tell but it was for sure exotic, different from the usual metro-mix of thai/chinese/japanese food. Those same reviewers also said that the manager was not the most pleasant lady and I agree. Luckily we just did take away which for 15e can feed two people and then some. They also server some exotic canned drinks (not just soja milk). The location itself is nothing special like most lunch-time restaurants aimed at a clientele of office workers and clerks in a hurry. It sure beats the Mc Donald's and Quick that are located at the same crossroad.
It has a good selection of Vietnamese dresses in the menu. simple but beautiful Asian decoration! good experience. cozy, neat and good service. we are coming back!
