With its great local beers (Ribella, best Corsican beer), its fresh food from the nearby potager, goose shouting at you, great music and beautiful people, the Libertalia is certainly an institution in Upper Corsica. It has one of the best atmosphere you can find on the island. While the meat option can be very tasty, the vegetarian options could be developed. The observation is worth for the whole island, but the Libertalia is supposed to be more modern in its approach than other restaurants in the area and should improve itself on the matter.
We loved the openness of this place. The tables are in the garden, the kitchen is mainly open, the owner is around and oversees everything. The products used in the recipes are local and mainly bio, often from their own garden. Everything tasted very good. The services was somehow slow but it matches the 'slow food ' culture they embrace. To pay you have to leave the table and go to a counter where for us they were not sure what our order was.
We went here for a Friday night dinner. It has a great setting and they've put it together well. The staff are friendly and they do good craft beer as an alternative to the standard mass produced options on Corsica. However, they really need to get some solid management in. The seating and serving of customers (not so much us but others we saw near us) was erratic and there didn't seem to be much of a system for who was doing what when among the staff (who looked overwhelmed during the busy period). The food was not bad but could have been a lot better with a bit more attention to detail, and it was far too expensive for what it was. It's fine to charge more for food that is labour intensive in terms of it being organic, but that personal element needs to follow through to the finishing touches and presentation if you want to charge a lot. This place has a lot of potential in terms of concept dining, and attracting people away from the standad tourist spots in St Florent. I hope they succeed however they need to do a better job of running things if they are going to attract people for more than just a curiosity visit.
10/08/2015 This restaurant do not allow to have neither 1 salad nor a choise of vegetables, they mainly propose big quantities of tomatos and squashes. They oblige to take only their dishes without any changement. For example 1 main dish with ONLY tomato a little bit of goat cheese for the price of 19 Euro. This is quite strage for a so called garden restaurant. The quality is medium also for the meat. Avarage price for 1 starting 1 main 1 drink more then 50 Euro, too much for this kind of quality/service. The location is quite good.
