Unfortunately, I realized that the Vegan Gado-Gado had an egg upstairs... I ask the waiter why there is egg when there is a vegan dish? He took the egg away and now said that a vegan dish. Okay, I ate that, but the chips looked like crab chips, so I asked the waiter again. He said that these are seafood chips and did not understand what is wrong with the meal for me. I told him what veganism is about. I'd never go there again. The menu says vegan and you get egg and seafood chips... so sad that vegan is used as advertising... the restaurant does not even have an idea what vegan means.
This little warung is excellent! Despite the low rating, I decided to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised by the authentic, delicious, and affordable food. I had the opportunity to speak a bit of Indonesian with the staff and found out that their vegetarian dishes do not contain any fish sauce, milk, or shrimp paste, which is a huge plus for me, especially when ordering from their nasi campur (local buffet style). I also agree with the previous reviewer that they tried to offer me crack crackers, even though I stated that I am vegan. Overall, a great experience.
I was excited to discover this small restaurant offering a budget-friendly menu with vegan options. While waiting for our food, I was considering adding this restaurant to HappyCow. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to find that the vegan Gado-Gado dish had an egg on top. I asked the waiter about this, and they removed the egg, assuring me that the dish was now vegan. However, I later discovered that the chips served with the meal resembled seafood chips, not suitable for a vegan diet. When I raised this concern with the waiter, they did not seem to understand what was wrong. I explained the concept of veganism to them, but left feeling discouraged and unlikely to return. It is disheartening to see a restaurant label dishes as vegan when they are not fully informed on what that truly means.
This small Warung is fantastic! I decided to visit despite the negative review below, and I was pleasantly surprised by the authentic, delicious, and affordable food. I am able to speak a little Indonesian, so I was able to converse with the staff and confirm that their vegetarian dishes do not contain any fish sauce, dairy, or shrimp paste, which is great for those ordering from their Nasi Campur (local buffet style). I agree with the previous comment that they offered me shrimp crackers even though I mentioned I am vegan, but if you simply confirm in English that you do not want crackers or egg, you will receive amazing authentic vegan food. The young boys who work there may be used to serving dishes with crackers and egg, but they are understanding if you ask for them to be excluded. This is not a health food store, but a local establishment, so cut them some slack as they are trying to offer affordable local vegetarian food. I would definitely recommend this little local Warung.
This Lil Warung is amazing! Despite the rating, I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised by the authentic, delicious, and affordable food. I was able to converse with the staff in a bit of Indonesian and confirmed that their vegetarian dishes do not contain fish sauce, milk, or shrimp paste, which was a big plus for me when I tried their Nasi campur. Although they offered me shrimp crackers, they were understanding when I mentioned I am vegan. They made sure to provide me with affordable local veg options. I highly recommend this cozy local Warung.
