Went here on a Sunday evening and it wasn't too busy. It was a good experience! We started off with the Chicharons... the sauce underneath was delicious. They were still sizzling when they came out. So good. Elote was super good as well, again the sauce made it that much better. Chicken tacos with the pineapple was good but something flavor wise was missing for me, same with the birria tacos. The wontons that came with the ceviche were so good, we got 2 orders just for more wontons. The bao buns were good. The fried chicken was crispy and REALLY SPICY. You will need lots of water lol . The matcha tres leches was a little dry but delish. We got 2 drinks that I cant remember the names of and we really enjoyed them both.
We found this place on a whim and it was amazing. I'm vegan and my partner is not we both found snacks to enjoy! The food is tapas style and the drinks are great. The staff is really friendly and they allow dogs outside. We will be back!
TLDR; fun youthful atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, portions are small I'd recommend La Chinesca for a quick bite and a drink if you're in the Spring Garden area. The indoor area is quite small but the outdoor seating is ample both in front and back which is perfect as the days are warming up. We tried the Hookie a Louie and La Caracha, both were quite good but could've used a little more oomph for happy hour. Mexicali Asian fusion is really the best descriptor for the food and everything was delicious must try the birria tacos, they were a hit . However the portions are pretty small for the price, so I wouldn't recommend coming on an empty stomach.
What really made this place special was the ambience and fantastic service. It feels like a throwback to the 1970's California vibe and just makes you feel comfortable. The drinks were incredible while the food was a B. I would definitely order the fried wontons again, but otherwise the food didn't steal the show and felt a little lacking. Service was fantastic and everyone was extremely friendly. This would be a place I'd go back for drinks and a couple apps with friends to hangout on a Saturday afternoon.
