The service was acceptable, but there were some minor oversights, like receiving a glass of water without any straws and a bowl of soup without a spoon. However, the food was excellent. We tried the Matzo Ball Soup and Mr. Schlesinger’s Special Sandwiches with potato pancakes (latkes), and they were delicious.
If you’re a fan of pastrami or a Reuben lover, Schlesinger's is the place for you! With a fantastic selection of dishes and desserts, you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose; everything is delicious. While you wait for your meal in the dining area, be sure to check out the pickle bar, where you can help yourself to a bowl of pickles, coleslaw, potato salad, or macaroni salad. The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and they’re open seven days a week.
I recently stumbled upon this hidden gem in Center City, PA, and it's the best place for a Jewish deli and bakery in Philadelphia. If you're in the mood for soup, you absolutely have to try the Matzoh Ball soup with chicken—it's amazing! When I told the owner it was my first visit, she kindly gave me a large Hamentashen. She was so welcoming! They really offer a fantastic selection of everything.
The sandwiches were quite generous in size, but the bread was stale, and the tuna salad lacked flavor and had an excessive amount of mayonnaise. The latkes were tasty, but I was surprised by the small portion size. The servings of applesauce and sour cream were also quite meager.
The Fresh Turkey sandwich is my favorite, but I haven't tried anything here that I didn't enjoy.
