I had a sausage roll and it was average. The muffins didn't look that easy either. There's plenty of better places in Woden Plaza to eat.
Let me say up front that I found the young man that served us to be friendly and enthusiastic even though he did get the coffee order wrong, and to be honest for a neighboring table as well, did I already say he was friendly. Hang on because it is all downhill from here. The coffee order was wrong, he forgot to bring mine completely and needed prompting. Eye appeal for the cakes is 10/10 but then I made the mistake of tasting one, revised down to 2/10. The base was doughy and the middle was dry and floury and overall tasteless. In my world when you order a Blueberry muffin you actually expect more than one blueberry, this was stuck on top with a dob of cream cheese icing (also dry) with no other blueberries to be found despite a thorough autopsy conducted of its interior. My two friends did not fare any better but at least tried to finish theirs. I set mine aside after the first bite, this must be a common occurrence as the intact and uneaten muffin was dispatched back to the kitchen without so much as a raised eye brow or query by the staff member. Why the title, Worn, Torn and Shabby. This describes the general decor of the cafe, and no it was not the trendy or kitsch sort of shabby. All of the seat cushions were torn, stained and on their last legs, some only being held together by what appeared to be silver duct tape. I have eaten at other cafes of the same franchise and found them to be excellent value with good coffee and cakes so I am aware this is a one off that should not be permitted to tarnish the good name of other franchisees who care about their customers.
After trying many coffee shops in the area, I believe Café Garema is one of the top choices.
I really enjoyed the large salad I ordered for lunch at this restaurant. The service was fast and the staff were accommodating.
I went for breakfast and had a delicious omelette with plenty of filling. The kids enjoyed their toast, which was a good value. The service was quick and we had an enjoyable experience.
