There are a few hotels on the beach but most line the promenade and the beach is reached via a subway under the railway line. There are miles and miles of beach but it is all shingle and very unpleasant to walk on. The resort has a wide, spacious feel and there are many shops to stroll around, many selling well known brands, and lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, although the menus don't vary much from place to place and cater more for a variety of foreign tourists rather than traditional Spanish cuisine. The Dofijet boats leave daily from the Hotel Caprice and the Hotel Tahiti (you can buy tickets at various kiosks) and go up the coast as far as Tossa de Mar. This takes about 2 hours and includes a short stop to look through the boat's glass bottom. This mainly consisted of looking at rocks through a green fog. There is only one boat a day which goes all the way from Santa Susanna to Tossa de Mar and back which gives you about 4 hours in Tossa, a beautiful old town. Santa Susanna has a train station with a service which runs along the coast. A return ticket to Barcelona which includes a hop on hop off bus ticket (you can just buy a train ticket) is €28 and runs every half hour to Placa de Catalunya in Barcelona. The bus ticket is for the Bus Turistica which runs 3 routes in Barcelona which can be checked on their website. There is a Cuc mini train which runs through the resort but route information is hard to find. It is supposed to be hop on and hop off and run up to a mountain where there is a national park, stopping at points of interest on the way. We caught it and it took an hour. It did go up a hill but only one through a residential area and the only stop was at a hotel. We thought it was a rip off.
A lovely town with a lot of bars and restaurants. A lot of fun things to do for all ages. Santa Susanna is has nice beach (but it really isn 't a sandy beach, more fine gravel) and the sea was a bit rough when we visited. The strip really comes alive in the evenings with a lot of live music shows, and you can ride a 'family cycle ' for 4! The beach is clean and the usual hire your beach umbrella etc. Had a great back massage for €5, too. Perfect for a day visit to Barcelona. A nice relaxing holiday.
Had a great time with two boys aged 10 and 8. Busy in August so would advise getting fast track for the slides. Boys had picture taken with Dolphins for 20euros each. Take a packed lunch food in the restaurant taste like school dinners and cost 50euros for two adults and two children. Bird show was really good too. Fantastic day out. Only down point was the swimming pool could be cleaner. Also coach drop offs and pick ups for Free!
