I usually order two regular hot dogs with everything, along with BBQ chips and a root beer. My kids prefer a simpler version, usually just with mayo, and they always grab a bag of Cheetos on the side.
If I ever crave a hot dog that rivals my favorite, Casper's Hot Dog, I know I can turn to Kasper's. And when I want to switch it up from Kasper's, I’ll go for Casper's. It might sound odd, but both places serve up delicious hot dogs, each with their own unique charm. This Kasper's location is conveniently close to home, making it an easy choice when I’m in the mood for something less than healthy. I can quickly order two dogs loaded with mustard, onions, tomatoes, and relish. The hot dogs and buns are always steamed to perfection, and the veggies are freshly cut. There’s usually an older woman behind the counter who is incredibly efficient, managing both food preparation and transactions quickly while ensuring she washes her hands in between. I appreciate that level of care! Now, as a hot dog lover, I'm tempted to get one from Kasper's and one from Casper's just to enjoy the best of both worlds. The story behind these two places is fascinating; they’re family-owned and trace their roots back to a time when they split, leading one to change a letter and branch out independently. Though both are quite popular and offer similar experiences, they have distinct flavors. Casper's hot dogs are made with a beef and pork mix, while Kasper's serves an all-beef hot dog. I find Kasper's to have a bit more spice, but both are absolutely delicious. If you find yourself there, don't miss out on the turkey dog—it's surprisingly good, especially with all the toppings!
When I glanced at the menu, it was difficult to understand why a hot dog would cost $5. However, since I was already there, I decided to give the Quarter-Pfund-Hund a try (think Kraut-Hund topped with relish). After leaving, I enjoyed it at home. The quality of the meat was excellent, and the buns were fantastic! The sweet relish paired beautifully with the saltiness of the sauerkraut and the seasoned tomatoes. There's a good reason this place has been around for 33 years. I’ll definitely return to sample some of their other toppings.
Kaspers Hotdogs were a Mainstay For Hot Dog lovers since their humble beginnings in Oakland in the 1920s. The dogs have a unique taste with just the right snaps on the case when you bite in them. The dogs are damped so that they are not watered and the rolls are only damped enough to make them warm and soft. If you've never had a Caspers, don't give the chance because you'll also be a fan
This place was always a favorite. Great people, great dogs... Just an all around great time. Very sad to see them close. I hope they pop up somewhere local again.
