I remember when I first was old enough to drive me to Taco Stop and get my own meal with my own money instead of just sharing one with my brother. My parents were right. I still can't stop alone. Clean, delicious, friendly. Everyone can ask a person in a restaurant.
Love the food here. As others have said, it is not authentic mexican, but a family version of Mexican food. The Quesadillas here (ground casadia) are not the normally expected style, but a round corstortilla with cheese and hot sauce. Very delicious. I grew up with this food where it started on the 14th when Taco Grande. Always stop when I return to Ponca City for visits. Combo Burritos are my favorite. And ask for the Extra Hot Sauce.
Just the Taco Stop tried for the first time today, staff was very friendly, the food (I had the Sancho w/ chili and cheese) was excellent, the portion size was more than sufficient and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely go back and recommend it to others!
Good place. Business travelers like a house of cooked food and that tastes like something I've done. Great price. Fast service, can't beat it.
Local Legend. This is one of those places that all the locals know about and, if having moved away, must revisit every time they are in town. If you are in search of authentic mexican fare, then go on down the road. This is the american version like your mom might have made for you at home when you were a kid. Having married a Ponca City girl, I was introduced to Taco Stop when we were dating. Now that we are married, it is always a safe bet when trying to decide on what to have for dinner. I love the smothered burritos. My wife likes the sanchos which are the same as the burritos only with lettuce. (I cannot stomach hot lettuce. Nachos are just round, yellow tortilla chip served with yellow, imitation concession stand cheese. I know some people will scoff at the cheese sauce, but sometimes one just appreciates nostalgia. My personal favorite is the taco burgers. (sans the lettuce I also highly recommend the smothered cheese and onion enchiladas. They also give free drink refills. Like I said earlier, this is NOT authentic mexican food. But if you want good, cheap, and plenty served in a clean establishment try Taco Stop, if nothing else so you can tell your Ponca-native friends that you did.
